Having a hard time figuring out ways to have the ultimate spa day at home? Look no further because I’m sharing with you 10 of the best tips to make your ‘me time’ extra special.

If an ancient self-care bible existed, having a spa day would be the #1 rule.
Spa days, aka the everything routine, consist of exactly that- everything. Everyone needs a spa day once in a while. Whether it’s to look and feel good, or simply as a mood-boosting activity. Spa days are the ultimate form of self-care, especially when you haven’t gotten to really pamper yourself in a while
Spa days can be overwhelming, especially if you’re anything like me who owns an ungodly amount of skin and body care products. No worries because we’re sticking to the basics of everything you will need to look and feel your best. So read on for the ultimate tips and tricks for creating an unforgettable at-home spa day.
Spa day for self-care: why you need it
I’m a huge believer in taking care of yourself, both physically and spiritually, but (and it’s a big but) if self-care is a habit for you, as it should be, chances are whatever thing you’re doing for yourself only lasts a few minutes. Skincare in the morning? 5 minutes max. Shower? 15 minutes give or take. Exercise? A gruelling 10-60 minutes.
So having a spa day? Now that’s when the magic happens. Spa days are special because they allow you to relax, go at your own pace and try out things you aren’t quite sure will take 5 minutes or an hour. That’s what makes spa days so, so special.
Tips For A Great Spa Day
1. Is your space clean?
A non-negotiable in my opinion. Pamper days are for feeling your best. And one thing I know people feel good about is a clean space. You know that feeling of wanting no one, not even yourself in your own space after a deep clean? Well, that, plus a long spa day will make your home feel like a luxury hotel.
I’m not saying an actual deep clean is needed, but making sure your space is as clean and comfortable as possible will make your pampering that much more enjoyable. I’m a huge fan of quick light cleaning; the kind that lasts around 15 minutes.
Don’t make the mistake of trying to have a spa day with a cluttered space, trust me you’ll have a lot more fun if your home is as fresh and clean as you’ll be when your spa is complete.
2. Set the mood with music
From the wise words of our favourite Pirate- Jonny Depp, “Music touches us emotionally, where words alone can’t.” and I couldn’t agree more. Music speaks to us like nothing else. And when we’re looking for a good time, music sets the tone for the kind of fun we’re looking for. Music from a night out is a lot different from the kind we listen to on family holidays (at least I’d hope so)
But the beautiful thing about your ‘me time’ is you can listen to whatever the heck you want. We hardly have a choice over the music we listen to in other, more social scenarios. So now’s your chance to pick whatever you like based on the kind of mood you’re looking for.
3. Light a candle

Do candleless spa days exist? Well, yes, but they’re nowhere near as fun
Having a scented candle around is a treat everyone should indulge in once in a while, and what better time to bask in well-deserved aroma therapy than on your self-care day
A cult-favourite vanilla-scented candle. Vanilla is arguably the most basic scent, but you can’t go wrong when it comes to candles. This scent is perfect for setting the mood with its sweet and playful scent- perfect for creating a fun and playful vibe to complement your routine.

4. Shower: A guide to the best shower ever
Step 1: Cleanse

Finding a good + affordable body wash and bar soap is hard. Sure, they all do the same thing but finding one that looks and feels luxurious takes a bit of trial and error. Luckily skincare is my only hobby so I have a plethora of recommendations suitable for the everyday person.
A tik tok and Pinterest sensation. This body went super viral for a good reason. It smells absolutely amazing and for the price, it’s an absolute steal. It’s lightly exfoliating but nothing crazy. It can be used every day and its perfect for those who enjoy a light floral scent. Bonus, it looks pretty on a shelf.
Scent: rose water
Price: $9.29

When it comes to awesome bar soaps, Dove never disappoints. Their soaps never leave that awful dry feel on the skin compared to other brands. Most importantly, they’re affordable and cruelty-free.
Scent: Shea butter
Price: $10.00
Step 2: Exfoliate

Exfoliating- Body wash or Glove
The first time I exfoliated (properly) I felt like I opened up a whole new world of baby-soft skin. Buy as many body creams as you like, nothing will compare to the feeling of freshly exfoliated skin. There are a ton of exfoliating body washes on the market, and while those are great, nothing compares to a good ol’ exfoliating glove.
Exfoliating gloves are the easiest and cheapest way to level up your shower routine. Ask anyone, once you’ve tried these gloves you won’t be able to live without them. Trust me when I say you will be able to feel the difference.
Tip: Bath gloves are best used with super foamy body washes. They’re less abrasive than mitts, and if your skin can handle it feel free to use them daily.

Step 3: Moisturize
In shower moisture: Body conditioner

I love a good body conditioner. It’s an extra step after cleansing and before your regular body cream/lotion for ultimate hydration and pampering. I don’t use it every day, but when I need extra self-love (and soft skin) it’s non-negotiable.
Body polishes are definitely an affordable luxury. Olay’s body polishes are the perfect last step to your in-shower routine. It’s made to gently re-moisturize after your cleanse to leave you with super soft skin before stepping out of the shower. Perfect for people with dry skin due to its moisturizing ingredients and light lather.
Scent: Shea Butter
Price: $7.99
Body Lotions and Creams

Body lotions and creams are like the cherry on top after a lengthy shower routine. Even quick, basic shower routines need to be topped off with a good body lotion for locking in all moisture you got in the shower. The best body lotion, are super affordable.
A shower routine isn’t complete without a hydrating body lotion and luckily, Nivea is a classic when it comes to affordable and good body care. Shea butter is the best ingredient when it comes to hydration, perfect for the last step in your spa-like shower routine.

5. Use a hair mask

Conditioners just don’t do it anymore. I used to be a skeptic but now I’m a believer because hair masks have transformed my hair care routine. They’re an extra (but necessary) step for those long hair wash days and ultimately we need to be pampering ourselves from head to toe.
Mielle hair care products have a cult following due to their famous Rose Mary Hair Oil. I love a good hair mask with active ingredients and this has exactly that. With biotin and rosemary this hair mask was made to heal damaged hair and promote healthy hair growth. Plus, you can shop and feel good about supporting this women-owned small business.

6. Paint your nails

A spa day at home can’t be complete without a simple mani-pedi. Stepping out of the bathroom without my nails painted feels like a crime, so I’ve made doing my hands and feet a habit for spa days or on days I want to feel a little prettier. My go-to nail colour is black, but if the image above has inspired you then a pinkish beige is perfect as an aesthetic finish.
